Meet Jader, a black lab mix. Her family moved away and wanted to put her in a shelter but after seeing her sweet face I decided to foster her. I was told she is 4 years old but after reviewing her adoption papers she appears to be about 6. You would never know her age by the way she plays! She is spayed and up to date with all her shots. She had her heartworm pill on April 13.
She was adopted from the shelter in South Brevard and was very sick with kennel cough; it took a long time to get her well. She does not like small children or cats, although I am taking her to get cat-tested this week. She is a very loyal and protective dog. She does protect her home once she knows it’s hers and she’s very protective of her family. There will be some people who come over your house that she will not like (she will let you know who they are) so you might have to put her in a bedroom. She does not do well with crates, probably from something that happened in her past, she will bloody her paws and mouth trying to get out of it.
She has been through the basic obedience class at petsmart and she did very well! She can sit, stay, come, down and shake both paws. She loves to go on walks; she does best with a halti lead. She is fully house broken and has never had an accident in the house. She is very gentle when you give her treats.
She loves cow hoofs and shin bones to chew on and she likes to play ball. She will chew a throw rug, but nothing else in the home. She will try to dig her way under a fence, so you can’t leave her in a yard unsupervised.
I was told that she gets along with most dogs; her best friends were a St. Bernard and 3 wimerimers.
Her last owners had to give her up due to a job transfer and the bad economy.
I picked her up in Vero Beach on Friday April 18. She was standoffish at first but that was because she was with her family who she is very protective of. She has NEVER bitten anyone, but they did have a soft muzzle on her since she didn’t know me and I was putting her in my car. On the ride back to Ft. Lauderdale she was very good, she laid down in the back seat and slept most of the way. When I got her home I took her muzzle off and let her explore. She was shy at first but as soon as I brought her bed inside she warmed up a bit. Within less than an hour she was my best friend. She does not go on furniture but I did let her sleep in my bed and she was snoring in no time. She is already protective of me. She heard someone outside my door and instantly went into protection mode. She bonds quickly once she knows you’re there to care for her. She loves to give kisses and hugs…she’s VERY sweet!!!
She desperately needs a loving forever home with someone who will give her all the love she deserves.
There will be a home screening and vet reference check before you adopt her. She has been through a lot and I want to make sure that she goes to the right family.
